| Important Visit: Pat Phelan, noted artist & portrait painter, will visit the Heritage Centre on December 9th at 2p.m.where he will be interviewed by journalist Ella Shanahan. It will be filmed and kept in the archive. Pat, born & reared in Malcomson Square,contributed weekly drawings of very prominent people to the Irish Independent, among them Jack Lynch, de Valera, Cosgrave, The Dubliners and Noel Purcell. | Danger: Waterford County Council have issued a warning to all householders in Portlaw that traces of e-coli have been found in the water supply. Residents are urged to boil all water to be used for the preparation and cooking of food; also to throw away ice cubes and make fresh ones with water that has been boiled and allowed to cool. | Radiotherapy Campaign: It is estimated that 1,000 south east patients travel for radiotherapy treatment. Campaigners insist that public radiotherapy in WRH must be delivered. It would increase cancer patients chances of beating the disease if the three strands of treatment were available under one roof. It is believed that an announcement is imminent re raising the capacity of Whitfield Private Clinic to 800 a year; still less than half the patients travelling per year for treatment. | Woodstown Excavations: Only a few days left to see the exhibition in Waterford Museum of Treasures of the objects found in the NRA excavations before the building of the bypass. On display are flint tools of the first peoples in the South East; a Bronze Age Leisure Centre - the steamroom in Slieverue that has been making headlines and the magnificent Newrath burial urn including weapons from a Viking warrior's grave (sword, spear, battleaxe and shield boss as well as a knife, honestone and ringpin). | Big Maggie: Dawn Players will stage the John B.Keane blockbuster, Big Maggie, in Ballyduff Hall at the end of November. | Radiotherapy for WRH: According to Dr. Gordon Watson it is not ideal for radiotherapy services to be split between two hospitals situated five minutes from each other in Waterford. At WRH radiotherapy services are not due to be up and running until 2011 while at the privately owned Whitfield Clinic, one linear accelerator will be in operation when the unit opens in November 2006. |

| BreastCheck: The Mayor of Waterford has called for resources to be provided for the immediate extension of BreastCheck to Waterford. BreastCheck is a national screening programme for breast cancer, available free of charge for women between 50 and 64 years. There should be no age limit for this service. It is discriminatory. |

| Caredoc: Caredoc, a much needed new afterhours service for patients with urgent medical problems, has been set up in the Waterford area. To access the service, ring 1850 334 999. An appointment to see the doctor must be arranged by phone before the patient attends the centre. There will be four doctors on duty who will be driven in cars equipped with all the most up to date medical equipment. |
